Sketching Executing Aliens Efficiently

Some observations from playing with a combat modeling spreadsheet "in progress" (high-alpha), mostly for long-range combat:

  • I see two obvious styles: "Hit and run" (fast weapons, e.g. Laser Pistol; denying reaction fire by getting into cover before it can happen), and "Kill Now". Attacking from out-of-view, not triggering return fire is also an important consideration...if you aren't going to kill it, don't hit at all.
  • When it comes to kill probability in one attack against normal Floaters, AutoCannon/AP autofire may win over Laser Pistol autofire. [Definitive results need a clean way to properly sum over all terms; I'm comparing easy lower bounds here.]
  • With Zombie's hard-verified alien stats, it is somewhat easier to know what reaction level you need to maintain to be capable of reaction fire. As usual, do not allow the aliens mutual surprise.

Killing aliens inefficiently is documented elsewhere.
