Ambush UFOs: Possible. Just let a Scout land, and it had: 12 HP Outsider, Mechtoid (first one of the game) with drone n' four Sectoids, and two Floater pods of 5 each.--Xuncu (talk) 02:57, 17 June 2014 (EDT)

Well I'm a partial convert after shooting down a scout and finding 2 chryssalids and 7 heavy floaters in it. Given that's only the second Heavy Floater sighting that game, this was rather surprising for a scout. I'm not convinced this is designed to "ambush" XCOM though, I'm guessing some UFOs have "elite" crews if the aliens decide that mission is particularly important. Since the next scout I assaulted had 1 squad of basic sectoids in it I believe the aliens also have "B-Team" UFO crews as well.
I've also noted as you have that the HP of the Outsider in charge can vary wildly. The Outsider on the Megascout had 20 HP, compared to a regular Outsider HP of 12 in my game, leading me to believe "crew quality" is a thing, rather than just randomness of what pods spawn. I had a 'large scout' (Raider) I let land have THREE Mechtoids, two in the same goddamned pod. Lucked out big time: the one I managed to kill first was the squad leader, and took out both drones, so the second panicked (while shielded), and I was able to kill it before the third popped up---- granted, AFTER, reloading from mission start, after all three activated at once. Nope. And yeah, later shot down another 'large scout', this time a Destroyer, and all it had was 4 sectoids, 5 thin men, and two 10HP outsiders.--Xuncu (talk) 13:08, 19 June 2014 (EDT)

I think it is 24 hours in Long War 1.0, not 8 hours.
