Hey guys - can anyone answer this for me? If .RMP files for alien routes through the terrain and aliens don't go into the Xcom ships, why are there .RMP files for the Avenger, Skyranger and Lightning? Phoenix 03 April 2006 10:56 (BST)

Aliens *do* go into the XCom ships. You just need to be unable to sweep properly...say, if you're thinking in RPG mode and simply must have so-and-so Captain on day one, so the crash site team for the Small Scout (crew one) is just so-and-so (and possibly one backup). It helps if the alien starts on the ceiling a two-story building obscuring LOS to the deployment craft, immediately east-west of the deployment craft.

There is, of course, also "consistency for the sake of the algorithm". Zaimoni 03 April 2006 9:47AM (CDT)

I get ya. Cheers for clarifying that, I've just never seen it myself (must be my excellent sweeping techniques! lol) - Phoenix 03 April 2005 15:50 (BST)

Plus, RMP files are also used to spawn X-COM units. Hobbes 10:52, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

I'm not so sure that's true. The Avenger RMP file contains three entries, and only one of which is in the actual craft (and that's set not to spawn any units).

Alien units are placed when the tactical engine starts up, but X-Com units are placed before this, by the geoscape engine.

I have absolutely no idea how rmp file works, but perhaps those values are there to point the aliens in the right direction.

X-Com Spawn points may very well appear in bases, but perhaps the rules are different for landing craft. I'm guessing they may be hard coded into the executable?
