In General

The Aliens become more aggressive against XCOM, the more XCOM performs activities to get in their way. Aggression determines which kinds of missions the aliens will run each month.

Increasing Aggression

A running tally of aggression is incremented over the course of the month as XCOM successfully launches operations against alien UFOs.

  • Shoot down or successfully assault a Scout, Fighter, Raider, Destroyer, or Abductor: +12.5%
  • Shoot down or successfully assault a Harvester, Terror Ship, Transport, Battleship, Assault Carrier, or Overseer: +25%
  • Perform a Combat Patrol: +50%

Decreasing Aggression

Each month the aggression decreases by 50% down to a minimum of 0%. However, if an Alien Base was raided in the last month, the Aggression is automatically set to 100%.

Effect of Aggression

Aggression is intended to reflect the alien's become more aware of XCOM and XCOM becoming more threatening to them.

Alien Missions

Aggression Level is used to determine the types of missions the aliens will field.

In general, High Aggression levels lead to:

More Hunt Missions
More Research Missions
Less Harvest Missions
More Bombing Missions
Less Abductions
More Terror Missions
Less Infiltrations
The XCOM Base Defense Mission

Relocating Harvest Missions

Also, the chance that the aliens will reroll the location of a Harvest mission if it resides in XCOM territory is proportional to the current aggression.

Reroll chance = Aggression Level / 2
