ADVENT Unit Deployments (LW2)

In each mission's tactical layer, ADVENT will deploy a certain amount of enemies present from the start. The deployed enemies are grouped together in pods of up to 8 units, consisting of a Leader and their Followers. The type of units that can appear in a pod is dependant on the schedule of the mission, which is chosen randomly from a few options depending on ADVENT's Strength Level in the region, the mission's innate modifier, and the Infiltration Value of the squad at the moment of carrying out the mission. Once the specific pods are determined a Leader is chosen from specific inclusion/exclusion lists and the spawn weights according to ADVENT's Force Level (some pods may also modify this level), and appropriate followers for that Leader are chosen afterwards up to the pod's limit.

ADVENT's Force Level will advance periodically after a number of days (dependent on the game's difficulty level) and it can also be modified for certain missions, and as it progresses obsolete units will be removed and more advanced ones will be added for possible deployment. Force Levels start at 1 and can reach up to 20, any Force Level beyond will not affect enemy composition.

ADVENT's Strength Level is more variable and can be affected significatively more by XCOM's actions, such as attacking ADVENT's reinforcements between regions, or attracting ADVENT's attention in other regions so they're forced to divert Strength from the target region. Minimum Strength Level is 1, and it can rise up indefinitely, depending on how many schedules are defined for the mission.

The following tables list ADVENT's possible deployment schedules for each mission. The schedule is chosen randomly from the possible schedules, which will be limited by Strength Level.

Notes

  • Each unit has a specific weight for each Force Level, indicating its probability of being chosen for an alien pod. The individual values aren't listed on the table but can be consulted in LW2's XComGameData_CharacterStats.ini file.
  • Some units can only appear either as Leaders or Followers
  • Faceless can only appear as part of pods in Rendezvous missions (verify)
  • Turrets also have weights but there aren't listed above because LW2 lists 2 versions for each turret and it is unclear when each version is used
  • Generals appearance is determined instead by the XComMissions.ini file
