Alien Submarine Assault

Explore the touchdown site and, if possible, gain entry to
the Alien Sub. The mission will be successful when all
enemy units have been eliminated or neutralised. Recovery
of the Alien Sub, artefacts and Alien corpses can then be
initiated.

In fact this type mission is more hazardous than Alien Sub Crash Recovery missions, and 'Extreme Caution' is even more called for. As the Alien Sub is undamaged, there will be more aliens, in better health. Entry to their fully intact craft will be more difficult and more dangerous.

Pretty much identical to Crash Recovery missions otherwise. Try to shoot down the USO first before attempting these missions as the risks can easily outweigh the gains, especially for a beginner in January. For most, however, it's always best to assault a craft rather than shoot it down (unless it's on a mission in which it never lands e.g. Alien Retaliation) because the components would otherwise be damaged in the crash-landing.

Expect more aliens to be cooped up in the USO, and camp the exit so that they're slaughtered in reaction fire. Make sure to sweep the battlescape first and verify that all remaining aliens are inside the craft. Eventually, either you or the aliens will get bored and pop through the door, hopefully (not so in your case) blown to bits by reaction shots.
