The Anthropod is capable of performing all the actions of an equivalent human soldier and can use weapons and equipment. It can feed voraciously, but strangely it does not seem to live very long in our environment, with a life span of only five days. There seems to be no further stage of development beyond this form.
The Anthropod is the first real "soldier" of the Alien assault force. When you first encounter these creatures, they will be carrying Brainsucker Launchers, so as to control your men. To counter this, I never leave a man alone. More often than not, the Brainsuckers can get to your men before your men get them. Keep them in groups of 3-6 men, so as they cover each other. This way, your men never get taken in by these creatures. Later, these creatures will be seen carrying Disruptor Guns, the first alien energy weapon you will research, then Devastator Cannons, Dimension Missile Launchers, Personal Disruptor Shields, Personal Cloaking Fields, Vortex Mines, Boomeroids, Entropy Launchers (of death!), and even, if you are lucky, or have gone REALLY far in the game, Personal Teleporters! Most technology which your men will be able to use will come from these guys and the Skeletoids.

To capture these soldiers (and, in turn, their shield generators, weapons, grenades, and other items), you need to use two items. First, is the stun grapple. The stun grenade doesn't work well enough against most units with the possible exception of the Queenspawn, who is immobile. The stun grapple, however, can take an Anthropod down in 1-3 shots, so give multiple troops the stun grapple. The other use, which I'd forgotten, is the psionic control. Mind control or knock out the guy, take his stuff, and then stick a guy with a stun gun next to him. If he wakes up from being unconcious, he'll be put right back to sleep by the guy with the stun gun. These two methods are the best for capturing Anthropods.

This creature was built for warfare, immensely strong and aggressive. Underneath the thick outer skin a significant digestive system is revealed. There is a well protected brain structure that seems to match human size in terms of its neuron count. The well formed brain is vulnerable to Psionic influence although it is not capable of Psionic attacks. This indicates an important weakness of this species. The tissues recovered from this specimen will contribute to our biological warfare research.

The Anthropod is the basic footsoldier of the alien forces, and the first of only two species of aliens that can use tools. They resembles a vein covered blue skinned humanoid with no neck and thick elephant-like limbs with pincers for manipulating objects. They are roughly the equivalent of human guards in terms of their functions, strengths and weaknesses. They are encountered in large quantities.

Thanks to their ability to use weapons and tools, they quickly progress from being minor nuisances to dangerous threats as alien field equipment technology evolves. They are also very well versed in the use of firearms found in Mega Primus, and will pick up and use them if necessary. They almost religiously carry one Megapol Smoke Grenade amongst their standard armament. It is open to speculation as to how they are obtained.

Anthropods are sufficiently smart enough to use smoke grenade to cancel out harmful gas clouds and fire. However, when using high explosives, they possess absolutely no sense of self preservation and will use the explosives to attack nearby targets, regardless of the danger to their own selves or any nearby allies or highly explosive terrain objects.

The Anthropod and Skeletoid are the only two alien species that are susceptible to manipulation by the Mind Bender.
