There are essentially three types of uniforms in Piratez: Outfits, Armored uniforms, and Power Armor. Outfits tend to be the least protective but generally offer exclusive bonuses not found on Armored uniforms or Power Armor. Armored uniforms are the middle-ground between Outfits and Power Armor; good protection and decent resistances to allow your main troops to withstand punishment from the enemy. Lastly, Power Armor is the coup-de-grace in negating damage from enemies, but generally only really usable by your most experienced hands, otherwise they will be over-encumbered and strained by the armor, quickly becoming a useless statue on the battlefield.
Uniform requirements are similar to vanilla X-Com, except for a much deeper reliance on materials. Accessibility to certain uniforms is highly dependent upon the factions raided, as there are faction-specific materials that offer both research projects for uniforms used by said faction, as well as the materials. So do not expect to find highly technical uniforms from low-tech factions or low-grade materials from advanced enemies. Lastly, some uniforms are required when manufacturing the more advanced uniforms, basically augmenting earlier uniforms you've created into improved versions.
Lastly, keep in mind the various effects each uniform offers as they are incredibly varied and should be appropriated to each pirate's role and statistics. Some may allow flying but they are generally unarmored, vulnerable to damage, and being so unprotected can cause cowardly hands to panic more easily. Other armors may hinder your trooper's naturally enhanced night vision, so not ideal for a scout on a night mission. The size of the uniform (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, Huge) determines how easily they can be hit by the enemy, so be careful how you position against any incoming projectile in order to utilize the front-most armor efficiently. Inventory space varies widely throughout the different armors with some allowing only what you can carry in your hands (0/25), while others feature 25/25 inventory slots. Finally, VooDoo abilities can be found on a few of the Outfits, but only the Witch uniform actually allows for the traditional Psi abilities (Panic / Mind Control).

Values are used to indicate lack of storage (e.g., uniforms with little apparel) or increased carrying ability (e.g., uniforms with ammo pouches, power armors).

Running around without any armor on has its perks - like being unburdened. Or not having to pay for armor. Or having the greatest potential for creating a fine-looking corpse. Our mutant's skin is almost as tough as body armor anyway! Melee Dodge %: REACTIONS*0.5. Inventory: 22/25.
