In the diving suits of lost mariners, these aliens stalk the seabed for the unwary. A vicious swipe by the creature's stronger than steel claws can be enough to send the best divers to the bottom. A gelatinous green form can be seen swirling around in the face mask. No hint of the real creature can be divined from the often lethal encounters we have had with them. |

Once the armoured suit is stripped away the Calcinite is revealed to be a huge amorphous blob of protoplasm. No visible brain, limbs or sensory organs exist, a small metallic component resides deep in the liquid body. Once dead we can only guess at the creature's nature. An inexplicable enigma of our alien enemies. |

A terror unit that may accompany the Aquatoids on land missions. Fortunately, while its diving suit makes a good disguise, no Terror mission involves civilian aquanauts. So unless you have an agent obsessed with yellow diving suits (and refuses to take off his helmet on land), there should be no problem identifying this armored blob.
The creature's corpse is crucial for XCom weapon research, since it provides information needed to study melee weapons like the Vibro Blade. Unfortunately for the scientists, Aquatoids don't enjoy terror missions much and X-Com commanders may not encounter this green blob until late in the game when Mixed Crew missions occur.
Tactics
Not much to say here. Calcinites are fairly straightforward: they run up to you and try to claw you to death - leave TUs so your Aquanauts can reaction fire, or use Particle Disturbance Grenades. They don't have ranged weapons, so they're completely helpless against during your own turn. They aren't particularly tough, so any weapon is effective against them. Still, they're more dangerous than the Aquatoids' other (also melee-only) pets, the Hallucinoids, since they're smaller and more aggressive.
Notes
The following are some miscellaneous notes on the Calcinite:
- The Calcinite takes 0.8x damage from Melee attacks, 0.9x damage from Incendiary and Gauss attacks, but 1.1x damage from Sonic weapons.
- It appears exclusively on land, in the company of Aquatoids or Mixed crews.
- Those old diving suits they wear actually give better protection than X-com's Diving Suit!
