Revision as of 03:22, 23 May 2006 by Ethereal Cereal (talk | contribs) (added tank & inbuilt alien weapons location info)
The "Geoscape" program that handles base management and aircraft, a.k.a. XCOM outside of tactical combat.
XCOM:UFO Defense (U.S. DOS) version 1.4:
- Is 382,957 bytes long
- Has alien statistics starting at (non-offset) byte 379,729. There are 33 records of 39 bytes each. No alien names, though.
XCOM Windows Collector's Edition: what's the right name for this edition, folks?
- Is 495,616 bytes long
- Starting at byte 648, reads:
XCOM: UFO Defense Gold Edition This awesome game was compiled on Sep 8 1999 at 08:57:11 Copyright - 1999 Hasbro Interactive/MicroProse Software Party on dude.
- Has alien statistics starting at (non-offset) byte 480,145. There are 33 records of 39 bytes each. No alien names, though.
- Has tank & inbuilt alien weapon stats at byte 447,868:
- You'll see sets of data that resemble weapon stats. From damage type, damage, firing costs, etc. They're all stored in 16-bit words (i.e. 2 bytes).
- The rocket tank's launcher for example will have a value set of 2 (high-ex), 12 (default ammo), 85 (damage), 55, 45, 0 (aimed-snap-auto costs), 115, 75, 0 (aimed-snap-auto accuracies). Etc.
- 8 records, each 20 bytes long, in this order:
- Tank/Cannon
- Tank/Rocket Launcher
- Tank/Laser
- Hovertank/Plasma
- Hovertank/Launcher
- Celatid
- Cyberdisc
- Sectopod
That's because the Windows CE version has no GEOSCAPE.EXE file. This file, along with BATTLESCAPE.EXE, are added by XCOMUTIL!
