The Laser Cannon is a mid-range craft armament that is available to research and manufacture after completing research on either the Heavy Laser/Auto or the Heavy Laser/Sniper.

Compared to the vanilla Laser Cannon, this variant is significantly more potent of an air weapon. Thanks to data recovered from the Alien Data Slate this Laser Cannon has a far more powerful and refined anti-matter reactor, which has increased its maximum range to 34km, it also features a superior integrated targeting computer which has increased its accuracy to 50%. The weapon also continues to not require ammunition to be manufactured for it, but its overall maximum ammunition charge has been reduced to 50 rounds.

Practically this means the Laser Cannon's range now matches the range of all non-combat oriented UFOs and its damage output is far more reliable. This means that the Laser Cannon now makes for a viable option as a craft weapon. Be wary however that combat oriented UFO's such as Fighters, Sentries or Terror Ships can fire their weapons before an Laser Cannon armed Interceptor can fire theirs.

Fortunately, the large size of the weapon means the usage of Alien Alloys and Elerium are not needed in its construction. Meaning this weapon continues to make for an excellent item to manufacture and sell to the Council of Nations or other less reputable buyers, who will undoubtedly appreciate being able to purchase effective interception weapons in bulk. Considering the dire economic straits X-COM faces, you will need to manufacture this to keep your finances under control.
