A baseline assault weapon, the Laser Rifle can be researched following the discovery of the Laser Pistol. Researching this weapon will unlock insights into the Heavy Laser/Sniper

From a tactical sense the Laser Rifle is virtually unchanged from its vanilla Laser Rifle counterpart. From a strategic sense the weapon has a slight alien alloy and elerium cost going into its construction.

This weapon is a generalist jack of all trades, it has decent long range accuracy, akin to the Heavy Laser/Sniper, and decent close range snapshot and auto-fire akin to the Heavy Laser/Auto. This weapon can prove effective in the hands of any soldier, but may find a better home with recruits or low strength soldiers who lack the innate accuracy or strength to wield X-COM's more complex and weighty Heavy laser variants.

The only drawback to the Laser Rifle is that its a pure generalist compared to the heavy Lasers.
