Maintenance costs

Base maintenance costs are not usually a massive part of your total expenditure, however when you first get to the point of having all eight bases you can build, you may find they can rise to be at least a slightly drain on your finances for a while.

Due to a bug the maintenance costs that are shown to you when you build a new facility are very misleading, so it may be helpful to understand what you base will cost to run, and why. The values on the Monthly Costs page are correct, and are calculated using the same method as described below.

Maintenance Cost by Location

Due to the bug, the cost of a facility is completely determined by the row on which the new facility is built, according to the following pattern:

Apart from avoiding filling the 30k and 35k rows in the middle until absolutely necessary, another consideration is that hangars only pay maintenance on their top left corner square, so you can treat the other three parts as if they were dirt squares, for the purpose of paying maintenance only.

Examples

In the following examples the Psi-Labs can be replaced by any other facility (except more hangars) without changing the final cost.

The above base costs: 3*10 + 35 + 30*6 + 10*6 + 4*6, for a total of 329k per month

The same base rotated 180 degrees costs: 3*4 + 1*30 + 6*35 + 10*6 + 15*6 for a total of 412k per month.
