The gestation period for a Multiworm is approximately two days. During this time the egg will protect itself with a weapon that launches a fluid containing micro-organisms. These organisms consist of various types, some containing acids designed to erode metallic compounds and others containing unusual enzymes that rapidly break down organic matter. Fortunately the range of this weapon is limited. The Alien embryos are not sufficiently advanced to be susceptible to Psionic attacks.

However, if engaged from a safe distance, Eggs also offer a safe way for X-COM Agents to improve their stats. Destroying any Eggs within reach is prudent if X-COM decides to retreat from a mission, in order to prevent them from developing into more dangerous aliens.

An immobile pink sac with a flexible tube that spits acid at nearby hostiles.

Multiworm Eggs will not be detected if X-Com searches a building for infestation.

Infiltration
Alien eggs are commonly found within infested Mega-Primus buildings in small static clusters with other lifeforms for protection.
An alien infestation spreading across the city from the initially infested building will also move alien eggs, singularly or with other aliens. Eggs may hatch into Multiworms when being moved. Any eggs appearing on the battlescape cannot move and will not hatch.

Combat

Icon

Multiworm Eggs are immune to psionics.

Alien Eggs are a minmal threat to an armoured agent. Eggs will attack using a weak and short ranged (7 cells) enzyme spit which can be avoided by distance.
It is not necessary to kill eggs since all will be recovered alive via the Bio-Transport Module at successful completion unless they are an unavoidable threat. Agents will engage eggs in combat but this may be a waste of ammunition. If escaping the battlescape, alien eggs should be killed as a priority where possible before exiting to limit further growth of more advanced and dangerous lifeforms.

Resistance
Multiworm Eggs are resistant to stun gas and immune to the stun effect from a Stun Grapple

Alien egg research very important to further X-Com's understanding of alien lifeform reproduction.
