The Sonic Pistol is the entry level weapon for the Aliens' powerful Sonic weapon line. It is a powerful handgun that fires ultra sonic waves that easily outclasses many of X-COM's initial weaponry in terms of overall raw damage.
The Sonic Pistol is a competent weapon that features high damage and accuracy. It is the fastest of the sonic weapons and has a very large 20-round ammunition clip. As a pistol it enjoys one-handed firing and a compact size that allows it to be holstered on the belt.
Like all Sonic weapons, the Sonic Pistol does not have automatic fire capability.
The Sonic Pistol suffers from several setbacks that don't directly relate to its performance. The most prominent issue is its short term availability as the later sonic weapons become more common. If a sample is not collected before it is discontinued, further research beyond the hand held Sonic weapons will be stalled if not halted completely.
The limited availability also makes recovering ammunition difficult, forcing you to manufacture your own ammunition for continued use. This can be costly as the require Zrbite to manufacture. On the other hand, Pistol Power Clips are a fairly efficient way of utilizing Zrbite for the amount of total potential damage generated per unit of zrbite used.
With good overall performance, it is an excellent general-purpose secondary sidearm and can even be considered for use as a primary squad weapon. If the pistol qualities are not essential, it is even interchangeable with the Sonic-Blasta Rifle.
This weapon appears in Terror from the Deep. For the UFO: Enemy Unknown equivalent, refer to the Plasma Pistol.
