Guides and Tips Section
This is related to a parallel discussion at Talk:Classic_vs_Impossible_(EU2012). The idea I've expressed there was to reorganize this section since it's pretty much a collection of mix matched pages. Here's my suggestion on how to reorganize the Guides and Tips section of the EU2012 Table:
General
Survival Guide
- General tips/wisdom about everything in the game.
Strategy - Description of all the factors regarding strategy (game objectives explanation, mission & aliens first appearances, etc.) and links to all strategies currently available, either on the UFOPaedia or other sites. Check the link for a first draft.
- Satellite Rush - to be written using already existing Unlucky Man's Satellite_Rush_Strategy and User:Xuncu's Panic Management strat.
- Alien Base Rush - to be written.
Impossible Guide
Specific Game Guides - with links to all the guides not in the list below
- Air Combat
- Building Optimization
- Economy
- Panic
- Story Walkthrough
- Murphy's Laws (XCOM)
Any comments/ideas? Hobbes 08:16, 21 December 2013 (EST)
- Anything that consolidates information, reduces clutter and improves readability is something I'll get behind. Just let me know what you need help correcting.--DracoGriffin 15:24, 21 December 2013 (EST)
Strategy/Tactical guides
The first draft of the Strategy (EU2012) page is already up. The way I'm picturing it, there should be two main pages/guides, one for Strategy (everything going on at HQ) and the other for Tactical (combat missions). The existing guides (Air Combat, etc.) listed above should all be referenced and linked to on the Strategy page. The main issue right now is to identify content that should be in the Strategy page and create it, if necessary. Hobbes (talk) 09:10, 3 January 2014 (EST)
- The Strategy page is nearly finished. I've taken a lot of info from Survival Guide, Continent Bonus Analysis, Commander's Briefing, Panic and even Impossible Guide. The Survival Guide page should be combed for the tactical tips (which should go to the Tactics (EU2012) page and be deleted, and I've used all the info already on Continent Bonus Analysis. The Panic, Impossible and Commander Briefing pages only need be have the repeated info removed. I'd still like to have at least two pages for the Satellite Rush and Alien Base strategies created. All of the other pages under Guides (Economy, Storyline Missions, Murphy's laws, Air Combat and Building Optimization remain as they are, I've merely provided links on Strategy for them. There should be also a specific page about the RNG (currently under Survival Guide) since it affects both Strategy and Tactical. The Impossible page and the Normal vs. Classic section of the Survival Guide also need to be reorganized.
- The Tactics (EU2012) page is the next challenge since it involves a lot that hasn't been covered anywhere yet. Hobbes (talk) 12:13, 5 February 2014 (EST)
- I still have my EW/Impossible/No-loss rush guide on my talk page, but ya seem to have most things covered. May still be good as notes, so feel free to gank anything from it that you may find useful. --Xuncu (talk) 17:37, 5 February 2014 (EST)
Fav. Icon for the site
I know this is small thing to obsess about, but it would be nice if a Fav Icon was installed. We can always just shrink the site logo. But this site is one of few that does not get small icon besides it title in my bookmarks. --Sunesha 06:54, 6 December 2013 (EST)
Sweet, it is easier to see what bookmarks belongs to this site now :) --Sunesha (talk) 16:38, 30 December 2013 (EST)
- No problem - wasn't sure how clear it would be but it came out nicely :) --Pete (talk) 05:01, 1 January 2014 (EST)
EU2012 Table
I've been having a fresh look at the table and I feel there are couple of links missing that would be useful to have under soldiers, namely for the Gene Mods and the individual soldier classes. So I decided to try to integrate them and here's the result: Hobbes 18:52, 17 December 2013 (EST)

- Its good but looks very cluttered with the pictures on the right on the actually page.
Example
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is the 2012 remake of the classic game UFO: Enemy Unknown or X-COM: UFO Defense in North America. If you'd like to contribute please check the Wiki Tips page for useful information on how to edit pages, etc. And also check the Discussion section of this page or the To Do list.

Should we seperate stuff that is actually to do with the base and gameplay from the difficulty and achievements?--Ditto51 18:31, 27 December 2013 (EST)
- To Miscellaneous? Hobbes 19:22, 27 December 2013 (EST)
- The Original X-COM had a general information section and an X-COM organisation section for the base and soldiers. So I meant make another heading and split it into anything that is controllable in game like the base and units and a section for difficulty and Achievements.--Ditto51 13:14, 28 December 2013 (EST)
- What do you think of the above changes? Hobbes 14:46, 28 December 2013 (EST)
- That looks a lot better--Ditto51 (talk) 08:01, 29 December 2013 (EST)
EU2012 Table Discussion
Can we please discuss any changes to the table before changing it individually?
- Abilities (EU2012) should stay under Miscellaneous section since it is nothing more than a list of all abilities
- Why did Murphy's Laws (X-COM) go to Miscellaneous?
- Continent Bonus Analysis (EU2012) is a redundant page with Starting Locations and the whole Guides and Tips section is going to be reworked (see above post), so if you think something is missing better to discuss it there. Hobbes (talk) 16:55, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- I moved The Abilities because people can use it to decide on how to combat the various aliens or how to use them in multiplayer.~
- The individual alien pages and the Overviews of Aliens (EU2012) are already meant to detail specific aspects of the aliens. The Abilities page is nothing more than a list of abilities for technical aspects (modding, etc.) and for reference (since it contains obsolete abilities).
- I moved Murphy's Laws (X-COM) to Miscellaneous because it isn't really a guide or tips it is more of a list of worst case scenarios that can and probably will go wrong because of the RNG, it doesn't really offer any type of guide.
- If you have a document describing what can go wrong, doesn't it act as a guide to help people avoiding those bad case scenarios?
- Yeah, I made that because of this, either way none of it belonged on the Situation Room page where it was originally.
- --Ditto51 (talk) 17:03, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- It was listed on the Situation Room because it is the place where you launch satellites and cover continents with them. But there's no point in having two separate Starting Base Location and Continental Bonuses Analyses with the same content. Both should be merged on the same page. Hobbes (talk) 17:21, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- First and Last I will submit to because what you say make sense, but the majority of the Murphy's Laws are things that can't be avoided or rely heavily on the RNG, like "if you have a 99% or less you will miss". That can't be avoided, much like lots of them.--Ditto51 (talk) 17:31, 2 January 2014 (EST)
Why is Flanking on the table if it just a redirect to the Cover Page which is already on the table?--Ditto51 (talk) 13:49, 9 January 2014 (EST)
- I think I had noticed that a while ago but forgot about it. Remove it? Hobbes (talk) 21:45, 9 January 2014 (EST)
- I'm not actually sure, it is still a gameplay mechanic even if it is a redirect.--Ditto51 (talk) 04:18, 10 January 2014 (EST)
- Its pointless to have repeated links on the main table IMO. If the topic requires a page, then one should be written before the link is added to the table. Hobbes (talk) 06:56, 10 January 2014 (EST)
I'd like to propose 2 additional links to the table: Alien Deployment and Damage Hobbes (talk) 14:55, 24 January 2014 (EST)
- No comments here, so bump this thread. I've been checking the site stats and the Hero page is one of the top 20 EU2012 pages being visited so it might make some sense to add it as well.
- Still no comments, so I'll go and change it. I'm also finishing the Strategy page, although it will also imply a rewrite/elimination of several existing pages since I centralized there a lot of dispersed info and there's no point in having repeated info. Hobbes (talk) 12:00, 5 February 2014 (EST)
