I feel like calling the Gauss Rifle's ammunition "high-capacity" is a bit misleading. Yeah, sure, there are 15 rounds, but you'll go through those 15 rounds faster than a Gas Cannon goes through its 8 (two and a half turns compared to 4) and frequently for similar benefit. It's not nearly as bad as the Jet Harpoon, of course, but when I think about "weapons I don't often need to reload" I'm not looking at Gauss Rifles; you often need to reload them twice in longer missions. I'm looking at Sonics - any Sonics, even the Cannon - because it takes them at least 6 rounds of continuous fire to run out and even against Lobbies that's 3 or so kills (against anybody else, of course, it's twice that). The Gauss Rifle would be lucky to drop two Tasoths before needing to reload. [[User:Magic9mushroom|Magic9mushroom]] ([[User talk:Magic9mushroom|talk]]) 09:01, 15 January 2020 (CET)

I think its biggest advantage is reducing the micromanagement of underwater only weapons as well as being available pretty early in the game and not as heavy as Gas Cannons, allowing you to carry 2 additional clips for 45 shots total over maybe 16 shots on the Gas Cannon without losing Time Units to overencumberance. The moment Tasoths appear that's when it hits the end of its lifespan pretty much and then should slowly be replaced by the hoarded sonic weapons you have by then. The auto-shot is also something that justifies its existance, as a point blank auto-shot can still deal a lot of damage and prevent reaction fire if it's a kill. 15 rounds isn't high capacity though, I agree with that.

Though slightly offtopic, similar to the improved Heavy Laser from xcomutil, my personal buff to the gauss weapons would be 20 rounds for the pistol, 25 rounds for the rifle and 30 rounds for the Heavy Gauss, while granting the Heavy Gauss an auto-shot function along with increasing the damage to 100 - 120. High ammo

Magic9mushroom (talk) 09:01, 15 January 2020 (CET)
