Welcome To All Rookies

This is the place to talk/ask about general issues concerning the wiki and hopefully someone will answer/reply to them.

Specific game questions should be asked on the game's individual talk pages.

For new users, in order to reduce spam you'll need to register to be able to edit pages.

To start a new topic simply press the edit button above. Then place your ==Topic Name== like it is written here.

  • To add a line you can either type ---- or use the buttons that appear on the edit screen.
  • If replying to an existing topic use colons : before your answer
  • Don't forget to sign your posts in the talk pages by typing ~~~~ at the end.
  • Finally when creating/editing wiki articles have a look at the guidelines page.

That's it. Happy editing!

Old articles have been moved to Talk:Main Page/Archive for later perusal.

XCOM: UFO Defense

Some time in the future we'll need to start thinking to add it (and the FPS) to its own specific wiki. But for the time being I'm wondering if we should have a single page to compile all infomation being coming out until it gets released. I'm thinking of features like weapons, races, combat system, research, etc. Hobbes 08:27, 13 January 2012 (EST)

Obviously we will need to make a XCOM (2012) and XCOM (FPS) section, but perhaps a temporary page like Upcoming Titles or something where features and other things of the new games can be advertised until they go live? -NKF 15:27, 13 January 2012 (EST)
I think one page each is good for now. Keep it vague, 'cause even things we have details on are subject to change. Stick the "upcoming titles" section on the main page, it doesn't really need it's own article. -  Bomb Bloke (Talk/Contribs) 19:19, 13 January 2012 (EST)
Hey all. There's already a ton of information available about XCOM: Enemy Unknown 2012 on a specific thread at the 2K Forums and I'm thinking of creating the initial page/template (based on the original game's page categories) and updating it as new information is revealed. Two questions, though, the first is that the page needed to be added to the list of games on the left. The second concerns the name 'XCOM', since we had decided to use the 'X-COM' version, but now Firaxis went back to the original spelling. Which should we use? Hobbes 16:31, 10 June 2012 (EDT)

X-COM (2012) perhaps? I'd settle on XCOM mainly for Enemy Unknown or the classic titles in general. Also about the main image - I'm not sure how it can be done, but a way to randomise the opening picture to that of any one of the games would be fantastic. Might have to see if we can find a plug-in that can do this and hassle Pete to install it. -NKF 01:34, 11 June 2012 (EDT)

What I'd like to propose is that we be more flexible with the current convention and allow both uppercase forms (XCOM/X-COM) to be used on the wiki, but not X-Com, XCom, Xcom or any other variation. It makes things more easy for both new/old users.Hobbes 08:01, 11 June 2012 (EDT)
For the name of the new game page I'm using the name 'XCOM (2012)', although I'm thinking now it would make more sense to call it 'EU (2012)' and list it on the left pane as 'Enemy Unknown (2012). Then have all associated pages with the game have the suffix (EU2012) attached, like (EU), (TFTD) or (Apocalypse). There's still Marin's FPS shooter coming out next year, if it isn't cancelled so using XCOM as a suffix may be confusing later. Hobbes 08:01, 11 June 2012 (EDT)
