This is the second of the first two HWPs available to new X-COM Commanders, and one of the most popular.
This tank fires explosive rockets toward the enemy that will explode on contact with a solid object - be it an enemy unit or a wall. These rockets lack the strength of the Large Rockets used in the Rocket Launcher but are moderate in strength and provide a considerable punch. Each tank can carry 8 rockets at a time.
The Rocket tank can remain useful to the very end of the game even if its destructive power is surpassed by the Hovertank/Launcher. HWP Rockets are readily available and cost little compared to the HWP Fusion Balls required by the Hovertank/Launcher. The Tank/Rocket Launcher is therefore cheaper to bring into field combat.
The best use is base defense, since space limit isn't a concern. Four soldiers will be more useful than any of the tanks on missions. Two or three rocket tanks and a handful of operatives can easily handle anything the aliens will throw at you, with proper bottlenecked base design.
This weapons system is used in UFO: Enemy Unknown. In Terror from the Deep, the Coelacanth/Aqua Jet is the equivalent.

Notes
- Many commanders find that the rocket tank is more useful for clearing obstacles than for actually killing aliens-- giving experience and credit for the kill to an actual trooper is preferred. the rocket tank's ground-clearing ability is especially valued in the later game, where tougher aliens can absorb the damage of a rocket hit.
