The Thermal Tazer is the primary non-lethal weapon employed by X-COM at the start of the war. It is used to capturing alien specimens for interrogation. It is reliable and powerful and functions like the old Stun Rod except that it freezes its targets.

As it does not have ammunition restrictions, it can be used continuously through the duration of the battle.

As a melee weapon, the Thermal Tazer's main weakness is that it must be used in adjacent to the target. It is the slowest melee weapon available but is one of the few starting weapons that can easily disable a Lobsterman.

A later ranged alternative to the Thermal Tazer is the aliens' Thermal Shok Launcher.

This weapon appears in Terror from the Deep. For the UFO: Enemy Unknown equivalent, refer to the Stun Rod.
