Rocket Troopers

Wonderful little toys, Rocket Launchers. But what makes them most effective? A good camping soldier who's crouched and has a stash of rockets, as well as a nice vantage point. Rocket Troopers have the advantage of being able to take out several enemies in one shot with directed fire, somewhat like a sniper, but with extra explosive fun, since you can end up levelling most of a city block with them. Well-placed rocket snipers are devastating just by themselves as well.

In any situation where a trooper with a rocket launcher has the high ground and aim to reach out and mess someone up, they will inevitably succeed.

Optimal Rocket Trooper Setups;

Solo

1x Laser Pistol
1x Rocket Launcher [Small Rocket]
2x Small Rocket OR 3x Small Rocket

This setup needs maxed out strength [40pts] to lug all that gear around, and uses small rockets because they're light and still quite powerful. A well placed shot will slaughter a squad of shirts like no other. Ideally, the rockets should be stored in the backpack, with one loaded into the launcher and two in the backpack. If you're feeling lucky, take a fourth in the backpack, since this fellow will probably be camping a lot and may not notice the AP penalties, and if he is he can always scoop the spare off the ground after dumping it. Just remember that sitting next to a live rocket is dangerous.

Group

Rocketeer

1x Laser Pistol
1x Rocket Launcher
3x Small Rocket

Ammo Buddy

1x Heavy Cannon [Armour Piercing] OR Weapon of Choice (Laser Rifle or Laser Pistol are good here)
3x Small Rocket

Goon

1x Assault Rifle [Armour Piercing] OR Laser Rifle (Using the UFO2k set w/ underslung GL is advised for minor demolitions power)
2-4x Armour Piercing Magazines (If you're packing the underslung, spare weight for the grenades, else pack as much ammo as you like or take some grenades)
2x 20mm Grenades (Take a couple of these if you're packing the AR with underslung GL, else take normal nades. Weaker, but aimed.)

Devastator

1x Heavy Cannon [Armour Piercing]
2x High Explosive Magazine

In this case the ammo buddy carries around a bunch of spare rockets and a rifle should anyone get too close to his mate. Of course, the RL trooper should still have a sidearm (Laser Pistol is v. good for accuracy and power, as it needs no ammo) incase his ammo buddy goes down. Keep buddy close and have him watch the RL trooper's back and cover opposing arcs of fire.

Our Goon here covers for everyone and acts as a spotter, whilst the Devastator acts as another sniper with ammo flexibility, for single shots or group devastation, much like our Rocketeer, and should be paired with the Goon.
