Hovertank/Elerium Bomb
Cost/Manufacture: $830,000, 24 Alien Alloys, 20 Elerium 1400 Engineering Hours
In spite of what its Small Launcher weapon lineage would suggest, this weapon is a direct fire weapon akin to the Tank/Cannon. This weapon is essentially an automatic Alien Grenade launcher.
In spite of its impressive firepower, it will struggle to dispatch the upper echelon alien forces you will be typically be facing by the time X-COM can manufacture this. Nonetheless it possess excellent terrain clearing capabilities, and against less armoured hostile targets it can still prove effective.
Its auto-fire mode is limited to firing two rounds per use.

Hovertank/Plasma
Cost/Manufacture: $860,000, 20 Alien Alloys, 30 Elerium 1600 Engineering Hours
Taking concepts learned from alien UFO weapons system, the Plasma turret variant is the direct upgrade to the Laser cannon variant. Better accuracy, slightly higher damage, and a 4-fire auto-shot mode.. Aside from this, it represents only a minor improvement to the Laser cannon variant.
Nonetheless it represents the most readily available and effective form of HWP that X-COM can manufacture, whereas the more esoteric Walker Chassis requires the extreme effort of capturing a live armoured sectopod, this variant just needs some basic materials and funds.
Plasma Turret Information | |
---|---|
Type | Plasma Bolt |
Damage | 115 |
Ammunition | 255 |
Aimed Shot | 70% (60% TU) |
Snap Shot | 59% (30% TU) |
Auto Shot | 49% (45% TU) |
Hovertank/Launcher
Cost/Manufacture: $900,000, 24 Alien Alloys, 30 Elerium 1600 Engineering Hours
A pure fire support platform. Loaded with an eight round magazine of fusion bombs. Compared to the vanilla variant, these fusion bombs are functionally identical in damage output to blaster bombs, an impressive 200 damage.
This platform eschews the nominal scouting/frontline role of the HWP for a pure rear-line support role. Its ability to hold up to eight blaster bombs at a time, that are also economical to manufacture (1 blaster bomb is converted into a 8 HWP fusion bomb magazine), can grant X-COM the ability to heavily exploit the power of the blaster bomb en mass.
Be wary that its limited ammo supplies means over judicious usage of it in the field can leave it dry of ammo.
Of course, you could be using four soldiers with four blaster launchers in lieu of this.
