A close combat weapon, the Scatter Laser can be researched following the discovery of the Laser Rifle. Researching this weapon will unlock insights into the Heavy Laser/Auto

Designed for close in engagements, the Scatter Laser is capable of putting a significant amount of shots onto a target in close range. Each attack fires 5 laser pellets of equal damage to a Laser Rifle, allowing it to deal a theoretical large amount of damage. The weapon excels against terror units due to their large size, as well as any enemy caught in close range. A single blast from the Scatter Laser can potentially kill a Chryssalid in a single shot.

Furthermore the weapon also features an auto fire mode, allowing the user to discharge two shots at once at only a slightly increased time unit cost to a snap shot and a slight decrease in accuracy and firing range.

As with all shotgun style weapons, the critical weakness of the Scatter Laser is its poor long range accuracy, it rapidly loses accuracy past several tiles (6 to 11 tiles depending on firing mode) which can produce shots that fly wide of a target, as well as the threat of friendly fire incidents.
