Lots of good research into the probabilities has gone on and autoshot often comes out on top.

What auto has going for it is that it allows for a greater number of trials compared to snap or aimed. Even with the lower hit probabilities, more trials == greater chance of succeeding once or even a few times. While testing out a machine pistol in a mod I'm making (which I should make some time to complete - mainly need to complete the battlescape sprites), I found that even 10% accurate attacks would frequently hit their mark on auto (at a fairly long distance). Granted the auto-shot cost on my contraption was 15%, so it got many attempts!

Makes you start thinking if there was a particular reason why there are less auto-shot capable weapons in TFTD! -NKF 04:49, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
