UFO's Plasma Rifle is really only worth it from 102 to 115 Firing Accuracy. That's the range where it has 100% accurate kneeling snap shots and the Heavy Plasma Gun doesn't (it gets them at FA 116). : Much of UFO Plasma Rifle's value lies in the fact that its snapshot is effectively as accurate as a pre-crouched Heavy Plasma snap. Toss on the kneeling bonus, and you get 98.9% of your accuracy. It's very useful for training soldiers approaching 100 accuracy, since three shots a turn at near 100% is quite handy. Later at 117, you can start performing 100% ''standing'' snaps. The Heavy Plasma is still the better damage dealer, but if you don't need that much power then the Plasma Rifle isn't a bad choice for the marksman on the go. So I got down to some serious theorycrafting recently and something jumped out at me.

Specifically, the Sonic-Blasta Rifle ties the Sonic Cannon at 100% accurate kneeling snap fire for firing accuracy of 116+. Does this create a niche for the SBR as a sniper rifle (particularly for soldiers with even TU, since even one facing turn will stop them from firing two Sonic Cannon shots) for these exceptionally-accurate soldiers, since two SBR shots are generally better than one SC shot? Not as much of a niche weapon as the Plasma Rifle in UFO, but definitely a more mobile option if you were in a situation where you had to turn. If you didn't have to worry about turning, the sonic pistol would be a good earlier option for someone with 103+ accuracy. That gets you two 100% aimed shots while kneeling. Of course, two Sonic Pistol shots is barely better than one Sonic Cannon shot, and aimed kneeling Sonic Cannon shots reach 100% accuracy at only 76 FA. And at 109+ FA kneeling Sonic Cannon snap shots reach 100% accuracy and thus it resumes being indubitably the best if you don't need to turn.

Heh, the Sonic Cannon always trumps the others except when it comes to speed/volume of shots.
