Tracked Chassis HWP's are the only initially available HWP on offer to X-COM forces.
Two variants, the Tank/Rocket and Tank/Cannon, can be purchased from the start of the conflict. The Tank/Laser must be researched and manufactured.
All variants can be upgraded to their upgraded Alloy variant when the appropriate unit is researched.

Variants
Tank/Cannon
Cost: $420,000
Least powerful HWP, but not to b e underestimated. Unlike its vanilla counterpart this variant uses high explosive cannon rounds instead of armour piercing ones, the High Explosive Cannon Shells can rip apart blocking Terrain, Alien foes, Civilians and Soldiers with surprising ease. Large ammo reserves are situationally useful on long/terror missions. The ability to order Tank/Cannon's instead of needing to construct them can make them effective as a relativity cheap defensive item for base defence.
Compared to the Tank/Rocket, this version deals less damage per shot, and has a smaller blast radius, but it can output more shots per turn and has a larger ammo reserve to accommodate for that.

Effective HWP with a strong weapon. Will struggle to kill armoured targets such as Cyberdisks or Chrysalids but is very effective against soft targets. Also doubles as an effective method of clearing the terrain. While less powerful than Large or Elerium rockets, the ability to carry 8 of them at a time is invaluable.
Compared to the Tank/Cannon this units rockets have a far larger explosive radius and its aimed shots are more accurate. But with lower ammo reserves and a lower rate of fire you are trading volume of fire for stronger, but more limited, attacks.

Tank/Laser
Cost/Manufacture: $500,000, 1000 Engineering Hours
The Tank/Laser is equipped with a respectfully powerful Laser cannon, and functionally has infinite ammo in the field and does not require ammunition to be manufactured for them. The chief strength of the Tank/Laser is their 'relative' cheapness, the fact they do not require alien alloys nor elerium makes them affordable if a strong and cheap force of HWP's is needed for defensive or secondary strike team operations.
Unlike the Tank/Cannon, the Laser cannon is not an explosive weapon, however this Laser cannon represents the most powerful ground based laser weapon available to X-COM, and per shot is on par with a Plasma Sniper using standard clips.
