Where Anthropods are the basic infantry of the alien combat forces, the spindly, yellow Skeletoids take the role of special forces. They are the only other alien that can use tools, and their their mostly superior stats and ability to fly make them dangerous adversaries.

Tactical Notes
A Skeletoid is, in most ways, an upgraded version of an Anthropod. It is much more mobile, and has significantly better Accuracy and Reactions. While its Health is lower, this is compensated by its significantly higher Armor ratings. It shares the Anthropod's weakness to Psionics to some extent, though not fully.

They use the same equipment loadouts and general tactics as Anthropods, but can be significantly more dangerous, especially if equipped with Personal Cloaking Fields. These devices will make the flight-capable Skeletoids hard to find, and engaging them in the open can be downright suicidal, as they will snipe X-COM Agents using Devastator Cannons, Entropy Launchers and/or Dimension Missile Launchers from outside the Agents' visual range.

The Skeletoids' ability to fly also allows them to hover high over gas clouds and fire, or enter structures through upper level access points, potentially surprising unsuspecting X-COM Agents.

Note that Skeletoids have a low Strength score, which will cause them to move slower if equipped with heavy equipment such as the Dimension Missile Launcher or numerous grenades.

Capture
Skeletoids can be a bit tricky to capture in real-time mode, as they can easily evade the gas from Stun Grenades, while the Stun Grapple will be ineffective once they start carrying shields. It is therefore best to capture them before they start carrying shields. Otherwise, trapping them in a small room and throwing in Stun Grenades can work, as can Psionic stunning performed by a well-trained Hybrid Agent using a Mind Bender.

A yellow bipedal humanoid form.

Infiltration
An Skeletoid is one of the four alien lifeforms which hatches from a Chrysalis. This is its final-form.
An alien infestation spreading across the city will almost always contain Skeletoids after week three. They are very common.

Combat

Unit

A Skeletoid is susceptible to psionics.

Skeletoids are the super soldiers of the alien menace. They are capable of using every weapon and most devices. Their quantity on the batlescape make them a strong threat when armed with powerful weapons but are completely harmless if not armed. They have no grown-in weapons. Skeletoids can kneel, fly, and crawl.
Armour is strong but strength is weak. Any heavy weapons or devices will encumber the skeletoid, reducing its maximum speed. Flying ability increases their combat effectiveness since any part of the battlescape is now accessible to use ambush, sniping, flanking and hit-and-run tactics. Gas effects are less effective since a skeletoid may fly up and out of the cloud.
When defending any structure in their alien dimension, they are the most common alien to be found on the battlescape.

Resistance
A Skeletoid has the second-weakest Psi-Defence of any alien. They are mildly resistant to stun gas, stun grapple and Toxin-A whereas Toxin-B has a more potent effect.

Skeletoid research is another step further for understanding all alien lifeforms.
